Mid-Week Music Movie Mash-up: Mad Max FR vs R U Mine
November 23, 2016
The 'Mid-Week Music Movie Mash-Up' is a weekly post I've created, exploring how the best scenes are edited to a tempo and have peaks and lulls much like songs. I will also be looking at the relationship between visuals and sound, and how song choice can enhance or contrast the intended emotions elicited. Essentially all I'm doing is re-purposing films into music video, buuuuuut i think this is a great little exercise to hone my skills at finding the right tempo and pacing of scenes. I DO NOT RE-EDIT THE SCENE! just layer the song and set the starting point. So to kick things off, here is a cracking action scene from 'Mad Max Fury Road' mixed with the Arctic Monkeys 'R U Mine'...enjoy.
Layering these two up really shows how to make a coherent yet interesting action scene. The multiple stages of the chase and action and directly mirrored by the song. From the brief intro shot of the trucks engine and the antagonist starting the chase through to the bridge solo near the end where the biker rides down the hill at the precise moment the guitar riff leads us into a break down. Its also worth noticing that the pacing doesn't just come from the cuts but also from the camera movement and speed of action. the again are accentuated by putting an up beat song over the top.
